Lying in your beds

I’m still pumped up from writing about all those TAX FREE withdrawals but I’m also in a bit of pain right now. I went for a run at lunchtime today and sat by the water for a half hour and somehow caught a bad sunburn… my poor fair skin.
I’ve never been too good at judging the sun’s intensity, especially when there’s a bit of wind like there was this afternoon.
I know I should just stay out of the sun but from time to time I’m seduced by the siren song and promise of a bronzed complexion… or in my case a less pale complexion. I can’t help it, sometimes you don’t always want to be the whitest guy on the beach… haha. OK enough feeling sorry for myself, time to get focused here and get my mind off the burn…
The future
I want all the GenXer’s to really understand the benefits of investing for your future and why this needs to be addressed sooner than later. From my perspective, I see clients all the time and most of them are lucky enough to have secured their retirements’ and legacies.
But generally speaking, one of the biggest problems this country faces is an aging population that’s not equipped for the last third of their lives. More than 100 million US citizens are projected to reach age 65 in the next 30 years.
Many of these people will not have the type of retirements they envisioned- especially as the cost of retirement communities, prescription drugs, and other services continue to skyrocket due to increasing demand. And on top of it the average 65 year old is living 4 years longer than they did just 4o years ago.
Empowering
The way I see it, the burden is increasingly on you to take your future into your own hands. It’s time to get proactive, and the way to do this is by putting a plan together and investing in your future.
Its time to educate yourself about the plan choices in your 401K plan, its time to look into a Roth IRA, its time to prepare a formal financial plan… its time to get serious.
If you begin to do these things NOW and empower yourself, much of what I wrote up there is not going to affect you. Social Security running out, company pension plans going under… will have little affect on you. If you want to be in control of your own destiny then take my advice, get started today and you’ll have no regrets in the future.
In conclusion, a quote from my favorite movie of all time ‘Braveheart’ which is a reference to not having regrets… “lying in your beds, many years from now, would you be willin’ to trade ALL the days, from this day to that, for one chance, just one chance, to come back here… and tell our enemies that they may take our lives, but they’ll never take… OUR FREEDOM! “
