Sailing takes me away

Here’s a little analogy I put together to go with the previous post.
You and your family decide that you want to rent a catamaran and sail from Bay Shore, NY to Florida. Your neighbor, Barney Rubble, decides he wants to do the same thing, leaving from the same dock in Bay Shore, NY. Barney has spent sometime sailing and you are relatively new to it.
On board your ship you have the latest navigation equipment, including chart-plotters, radars, autopilot, the works. Barney has little to no equipment on his catamaran and feels comfortable using his instincts.
Whose going to get to Florida first? Chances are you will be the first to port in the Florida Keys sipping a mai tai, chances are you will have a much more rewarding trip, as you will have the comfort of knowing where you are each step of the way. Chances are your trip will be smooth sailing compared to Barney’s, using your equipment you can avoid bad weather and choppy seas.
At the end of the day you are far more prepared for the long trip than Barney. You’ve prepared in advance and chances are your trip is alot more relaxing for you and your family.
As you can tell I’m a big fan of road-maps and navigation equipment. My new car no longer has GPS, I miss it so much that I have to get a new one soon. It’s true… you never know how much you’re gonna miss something til its gone.
GPS on the brain…
