This blog is really a work in progress. Earlier this year, I knew hardly anything about blogging or the blogosphere. Since then I’ve been reading, subscribing, doing more reading and trying to learn as much as I can about the art of blogging… and I really believe ‘good’ blogging is an art-form.

I’m so happy to have discovered this world and am blown away (daily) by the creativity and hard work many people put into their blogs.

It’s actually quite a humbling experience, as well as, a motivating one, all at the same time. It’s very exciting to be a part of this new avenue of streaming information and social media. (a couple years removed:)

I mean, I can spend all day reading some of these blogs and have to be careful to allocate a certain amount of time to them and stick with the routine, otherwise I’ll never sleep. Right now I have 100+ unread items in my Google Reader.

State of the Union

Since I started, I’ve switched the look of my blog twice in the first 2 months, hiring two different (very talented people) to customize my theme. The first theme was simple and was done in the colors of my favorite baseball team, the New York Mets. With the newest theme I’m attempting to have more of an environmental and patriotic feel.

I’m pretty happy with the current look and will probably tweak different aspects of it, as I go. I’m still getting used to it and have alot of house cleaning to do, including categorizing all my posts properly and creating the internal linking structure. I think I’ll also try and customize the logo sometime this fall… something unique that conveys the feel of the blog.

I’ve learned quite a bit about WordPress, although I’m frustrated, on a daily basis, with my lack of technical know how. I’m always trying to improve on that but my progress is slow.

I spent about 8 long hours (well into the night) yesterday trying to learn more about image and photo editing, somehow I managed to erase the entire third column for most of the day.

I added a new image editor plugin and am trying to get a better understanding of jpeg’s, gif’s, pixels, resolution, ayyiyi. I really want to add images, photos and video so I need to know how to do a few things, not everything, but enough to get by.

I also know, as my dad always said, to be honest with yourself and recognize your strengths and weaknesses. I know I’m technically pretty weak and sometimes too stubborn to admit it.

I think I’ll stick to the financial planning and outsource the code and design to people alot more talented then me… but boy is blogging beautiful!
