The lucky ones
I’ve written about what inspired this blog in the past, here’s a bit more fodder…
I meet with clients (mostly Baby-boomers) that are generally well off and will live comfortable lives. They need my help with managing their assets, protecting their net worth, education and survivorship planning, etc.
And I’m happy to give it to them, in fact I love doing it. But these people are the lucky ones…
Most are not so lucky
A huge number of Americans are completely unprepared for the next 40 years of their lives; many elderly Americans are living solely off of social security. What strikes me about the whole process is very little is made of it. And I don’t mean little is made of the people that are actually living on $2 worth of food a day (in fact, you hear these kind of sad stories often enough these days).
What I mean is… little is made of why they ended up in this position.
I’d be willing to bet, a big part of the problem is because nobody was there to advise (and encourage) them on some simple ‘down home’ financial planning they could have done, while in their 30’s and 40’s, to secure a better future. BTW, I’ve coined a phrase here, “down home financial planning… slightly less than formal.”
Bottom to top
A strange thing about the financial planning business is that everything is upside down. Financial advisors and brokers want to talk to you when you have a lot of money but want nothing to do with you if you don’t have any.
If this is the case, how do you teach and encourage hardworking people, with little or no money, to get financially proactive, when you don’t care about them or frankly, can’t afford to spend the time doing so?
It’s a Catch 22… unfortunately most GenXer’s are left to fend for themselves and sadly do little future planning. Well, I’d like to play a part in changing all that.
Chance favors the prepared mind
I’d like to educate, encourage, and empower you to achieve your financial goals. Gain peace of mind from a solid financial plan instead of leaving your life to chance.
