achieve independenceGeneration X Finance and my blog have a lot in common. Most of our posts are targeting the same demographic (GenXer’s) and our objective is eerily similar.

His tag line states, “helping a unique generation achieve financial independence.” And my goal is more or less the same thing. Take a look at my About widget over there to the right and see for yourself.

I remember, back in late June, brainstorming different names for my blog and coming across Generation X Finance. For half a second I was disappointed because I thought someone beat me to the idea. Yes I was a bit naive when it came to blogging, but I’m getting better.

But I soon discovered many blogs have similar objectives, what makes them unique are the different experiences and personality a writer can bring to the blog. The more blogs targeting Generation X the merrier, everyone has a right to own a home (tiny analogy there).

In the end, we’re both trying to help a generation be more proactive when it comes to managing their future.

Random musing

I was just thinking, in my reviews this week I’ve gone from looking at more savings (and cost cutting) based blogs and slowly moved more towards blogs with an investment related slant. I’m happy about this because all of these blogs together cover a wide array of personal finance topics. I think there’s a good chance you’ll find what your looking for somewhere in here.

Back to Gen X

Jeremy from Generation X knows his stuff and has a very easy delivery. I think he writes in a very conversational-like way, something I’m always reminding myself to do. I’ve come across sites that turn me off immediately and part of the reason I added this site to my blogroll is the appealing way in which it’s written. (That goes for all the sites I’ve added to my roll)

I’m sure he and I will criss cross on a few topics over the next couple years, although he tends to provide more detailed information, on named investments, than I do (at least to date). Another thing I like is how many of his pieces deal with current market events, i.e. The Bright Side of the Declining Dollar.

I think it’s an excellent resource for GenXer’s to get answers to many of the questions in the forefront of their minds. Here’s a sampling of what I’m talking about:

Following in the footsteps

I do have to make a small confession. All the hyper links in the right columns of my site used to be bright blue in color. After going to Generation X Finance, one day in late September, I decided to make them all black. I did this because I thought his black looked a lot better than my blue.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery…
