This week is going to be a light week when it comes to original planning related content.
I’ve transitioned out of mutual fund related posts and am preparing to enter into an area that I plan on spending quite a bit of time on… Down Home planning.
In my mind I know what I want to accomplish with this next phase of the blog, but figuring out exactly how to bring it to life, for my millions of readers (haha), is another animal all together.
Right now, I’m diligently researching many of the different mechanisms that will be involved in the ‘Down Home’ segment of this blog, and hope to present my ideas as clearly as possible.
I’m also in the process of building a lineup of friends that are going to be the subjects of the upcoming posts. They will remain anonymous, but are mostly the same people that gave me the answers to the straw poll I conducted before I started this weblog.
The big event a few years off
In this next phase of this blog I plan on showing you how to use financial calculators, many of which are available in the tool bar up above, to help prepare for the future.
Although ‘Down Home’ planning is geared towards resolving MANY of the major financial issues faced by GenX, I will be dedicating a whole lotta time toward planning for one specific occasion… the 2010 Roth Conversion Event.
This is a real biggie, in my opinion. For someone in there 30’s or 40’s, doing a Roth IRA conversion is the single biggest ‘investment related’ step you can take towards empowering yourself financially.
What I want from this next phase of my blog
I hope that each ‘informal’ financial planning example I put forward helps:
- motivate more and more GenExer’s to use these financial calculators for their own benefit
- GenExer’s to understand the importance of saving, investing and planning for their future
- you to figure out whether or not a Roth Conversion is the right thing to do. (for most of you this should be a straightforward decision, with the benefits far outweighing any drawbacks)
- you to begin planning a Roth IRA Conversion today
All of these hypothetical Down Home scenarios that I’m working on right now will eventually become the backbone of this entire blog and the starting point for getting you to where you need to be… the sweetspot.
