Go Giants!I kicked back the ‘flavors of the week’ an extra day in honor of the Superbowl.

Kicked it back, get it? See where I’m coming from? Haha… sorry, it’s been a long week.

Actually writing this late on Saturday and will time stamp it for ‘Super’ early Sunday morning so there is no ‘Bowl’ conflict. Did you see what I did there? I did it again? HeHe… a bit delirious today.

Let’s get First Down to business…

Home is where the heart is

Over the past 10 days I participated in a group writing project called Home Finance: All you need to know about home ownership at rocket finance. This is a fantastic series where you can get a lot of answers to any of your housing related questions. The series was so popular that it was picked up on MSN Money, as well.

(Unfortunately, I didn’t hear back from anyone last week about which method you prefer in the Flavors roundup:( I’m going to go with ‘the snippet from each post’ method, for now.)

Here are all the articles in the series:

My Thoughts On This Whole Mortgage Crisis And Why I Don’t Feel That Bad @ My Two Dollars

I am not going to blame the banks for this crisis like so many people are doing. I am going to blame the people who took out the mortgages in the first place that they could not afford.

Why renting is right for us right now @ Mrs. Micah

I can’t pretend that some days I don’t get house lust. But honestly, even my house lust is transformed by my renting experience.

Homeowners - Avoid Foreclosure by Thinking Like Investors @ Two Wise Acres

Foreclosure news has become an all too common headline. This week’s news cycle about foreclosure activity increasing 75% in 2007 was just the latest in a continuous stream of bad news for some homeowners.

Debt-To-Income Ratio and Why It Matters @ Moolanomy

For someone who doesn’t carry a lot of debt, I didn’t give Debt-To-Income ratio a serious thought until I start lending money on peer-to-peer lending networks.

Catch a Falling Knife - Buying the Housing Slump @ Millionaire Money Habits

If you have the guts, there are some fantastic opportunities in both the housing and stock market…

Can we afford the Payments @ PaidTwice

It seemed no one expected a first time home buyer to have *any* down payment. We have excellent credit and no money, and apparently here, a credit score is more important than money when it comes to purchasing a home.

Pay off Credits Cards with a HELOC @ Debt Free Revolution

Let’s tackle the erroneous notion that you can “pay off” debt by borrowing (more debt). Yes, a HELOC is borrowing…it’s borrowing against the equity of your HOME…

So You Want to Buy a Fixer Upper @ Remodeling This Life

Buying a fixer upper home can be a fulfilling, profitable experience. Or it can be a nightmare full of unexpected expenses and unforeseen disasters. Or it can be both.

Frugal Hacks For Your Home @ Being Frugal

I have a lot of experience living on a shoestring, and I’ve put together a list of tips I’ve either heard of or used myself to maintain and decorate my home on a budget.

American Subprime Crisis—Should We Care @ Plonkee Money

Developed economies are somewhat linked together, and with increasing globalisation, if something effects one of the biggest world economies, it tends to affect everyone to a certain extent…

Mortgage escrow accounts Explained @ Cash Money Life

A mortgage escrow service is much like a forced savings account. Money is paid directly to the escrow service where it is held until payments are due. For example…

Don’t Use Your House to Pay for Your Life @ Rocket Finance

My financial story is not particularly unique, however I believe that many people, especially young people in their 20’s who are contemplating marriage or have just graduated from college can benefit from reading it. I put myself and my family into a great deal of financial trouble because of a lack of knowledge and some carelessness.

Why the Sub-Prime Crises has not Affected Canada Yet @ Four Pillars

I think that there are a lot less borrowers in Canada who are on the edge as far as being able to afford their mortgages. That said, lenders in Canada will still give borrowers a lot of mortgage…

That Damned Rent vs. Buy Question @ Blueprint for Financial Prosperity

I feel as though the risk is far less in these suburban areas because as a buyer I’m not buying into an area that’s bad but will get better, I’m buying into an area that’s already decent.

Predatory Mortgage Lending and the Subprime Market @ Chance Favors (right here :)

After Foreclosure Guide to Housing: It Ain’t Easy @ DebtKid

What I don’t hear about so much is what’s happening to all the people involved in these loans gone bad. With thousands of family losing their homes…where are they ending up?

How to Avoid Foreclosure - The Definitive Guide @ Credit Withdrawal

Realize that it’s time to face the problems and start dealing with them. Here’s a number of things to do to try to prevent the mortgage company shark from eating your home, money, and time.

Wrap up

There’s quite a bit of reading there, if you get through it, then consider yourself fairly well read on the housing market, and up to date on many of the issues.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and GO GIANTS!

Thanks for including my post. :) The best way to fight house lust is clean. When I’m cleaning, I’m often grateful that I only have a 1-bedroom apartment to clean.
