So You Want To Become A Financial Advisor?

Subscribing to my site guarantees you don't miss any new content. Choose either E-Mail Feed or RSS Feed. Thanks for visiting!

become a financial advisorThis morning - over on Moolanomy - is an interview Pinyo conducted with yours truly last week.

As a part of the interview Pinyo asked me, “what’s the minimum requirement for someone to offer financial advice?”

I thought he meant what was the minimum amount of investable assets you need to work with a financial advisor, and I went on to answer that question. Although he was happy for that answer, what he was really trying to ask me was… what qualifies someone to offer advice to the public professionally?

(For the purposes of this post, we’re going to add 5 little words to the end of that question. So the question now reads… what qualifies someone to offer advice to the public professionally AND BE COMPENSATED FOR IT?)

Chance Flavors - StumbleUpon Merger Edition!

Chance flavors - SU mergerBefore I start today, I would just like to say THANK YOU to everyone who supports my blog. I appreciate it very very much, you’ve really helped me to become passionate about something again!

This is the third edition of ‘Chance Flavors.’ And so far it’s been wildly successful (he says jokingly).

Actually, Chance Flavors is by far the least read of all my weekly posts and I’ve been sitting here trying to think how I can change that fact or whether or not it’s worth writing a round up to begin with. It got me to thinking about the purpose of roundups in the first place.

Why do blogs have weekly round ups?

The way I see it most of these roundups serve one, some, or all of the following purposes: Continue Reading “Chance Flavors - StumbleUpon Merger Edition!”

What is an RSS feed and How Does It Work?

rss feed iconI just wanted to write a short post here on what an RSS feed is and how to setup your feed reader.

Many of my friends in their 30’s and older still have no idea what an RSS feed is. For that reason, I used to have a section on my blog homepage called ‘What is RSS?’ When you clicked on it, it would take you right to this page. Unfortunately, that section hit the cutting room floor.

So I figured I’d just turn it into an individual post that visitors can refer to.

Honestly, this YouTube video (right below)  is the easiest way to learn about what an RSS feed and feed reader are, so watch it!

‘My Two Cents’ On The Incredible Sprint SERO Cell Phone Plan!

Shocking Sprint SERO Cell planI ended Tuesday’s post by letting you know that I paid the termination fee of $175 to AT&T (my current provider) in order to switch to the Sprint SERO cell phone plan.

If it wasn’t for the incredible deal that I received from Sprint, along with the heavily discounted price on the new phone that comes with it, I never would have done this.

Let’s take a look back and see how I got to this point.

‘My Two Cents’ On How To Avoid Cell Phone Termination Fees

cell phone termination feesIn this post, I’m going to add ‘My Two Cents’ on avoiding cell phone early termination fees.

(Originally I had planned on covering cell termination fees, unlimited data plans and cutting your cable bill in half, but the post became prohibitively long, so I’ll break it into three shorter individual posts.)

A little background here

I wanted to get out of my cell contract because I needed the ability to respond to emails and instant message on the go, especially the many emails I’m starting to receive here. The phone I have makes that very difficult, so much so, that I haven’t even bothered to get a data plan.

Follow up to the Problogger article and comments

herding search trafficI’d like to thank Darren at Problogger for posting my article on How to Herd Organic Search Traffic to Your Blog.

The feedback at Problogger was overwhelmingly positive and I’m glad I could share a few of my SEO tips with personal finance bloggers and bloggers alike.

I hope you were able to find something useful, that will help your blog grow exponentially.

On a personal note, I found Darren to be very accessible and a pleasure to deal with. Thanks for giving the article the exposure it wouldn’t have had anywhere else!

Using the right ‘SEO Editor’ plug in

After reading all of the feedback, a lot of the questions focus on section #6 where I talked about the right ‘SEO Editor’ plug in. Before I go and add some additional information, I’d like to introduce Harris Beringer.

Chance Flavors of The Week - Superbowl Edition

Go Giants!I kicked back the ‘flavors of the week’ an extra day in honor of the Superbowl.

Kicked it back, get it? See where I’m coming from? Haha… sorry, it’s been a long week.

Actually writing this late on Saturday and will time stamp it for ‘Super’ early Sunday morning so there is no ‘Bowl’ conflict. Did you see what I did there? I did it again? HeHe… a bit delirious today.

Let’s get First Down to business…

Home is where the heart is

Over the past 10 days I participated in a group writing project called Home Finance: All you need to know about home ownership at rocket finance. This is a fantastic series where you can get a lot of answers to any of your housing related questions. The series was so popular that it was picked up on MSN Money, as well.

(Unfortunately, I didn’t hear back from anyone last week about which method you prefer in the Flavors roundup:( I’m going to go with ‘the snippet from each post’ method, for now.)

Here are all the articles in the series:

‘My Two Cents’ On Personal Finance Blogs

My Two CentsJust last week I added the ‘My Two Cents’ category to my blog, along with the image of those shiny pennies that you now see above my picture to the right.

Why?

Because my most popular blog post to date, called My Two Cents on 12 Investing Mistakes and How You Can Learn From Them’, was also one of the most enjoyable for me to write.

And I thought this would be a great way for me to express my opinions on the most interesting personal finance articles I come across from around the web. I Stumble so many posts each week, it should be pretty easy to pick one and add My Two Cents, right?
