In last week’s roundup I revealed my NCAA Final Four picks. I got 3 of the Final 4 correct, but the one I got wrong (Tennessee) really hurt me.
In my pool, the best I can do now is come in 3rd place - that’s if my teams make the Final and I pick the overall winner. In case you’re wondering, I have Kansas over Memphis in a tightly contested final.
And although I picked Kansas for my pool, I was desperately routing for Davidson to beat them yesterday. It came down to the last shot and sadly it wasn’t meant to be. Kansas was by far the better team on paper, but like everyone else, I think Kansas was drinking the Davidson Kool-aid and almost gave away a spot in the Final Four.
And what a great story Davidson was - a tiny school in (arguably) the biggest basketball state in the country and they made it further in the NCAA tournament than in-state Goliaths - Duke and Clemson. Davidson was the little train that could, capturing the hearts of American sports fans and reminding us what is great about sports, especially collegiate athletics.
Without further ado, the flavors of the week:

My Easter roundup post has been sitting on my computer for the last 2 1/2 days and (EXCUSES) with tax season in full swing, the investment markets swirling about - I have been so so busy and not had a chance to put the finishing touches on it .
I would like to wish everyone a very belated Happy Easter! My brother and I celebrated with our parents, who live about a mile from the letter E in my keyboard. It was a quiet Easter, very relaxing and fun to watch all the NCAA B-ball games. As of this writing, I am in good shape in my pool. My Final Four teams include Tennessee, Kansas, Memphis and UCLA. Big games coming up this weekend, and I’m looking forward to watchin’em all.
One other thing I’d like to mention - (TLSN) The Life Skills Network site is fully operational and looking rather lovely. A few of the other members put a lot of hard work into the site and I’d like to thank them for that… as they say in Hollywood, you know who you are:)

I’m trying not to make a habit of this, but being a day or two late with my weekly favorites has it’s advantages. Least of which - I can see which bloggers were kind enough to include me in their round ups over the weekend:)
I think I’ll allow my roundup post to drift more towards a Sunday/Monday slot, it just works better for me as I’ll have a whole calendar week of StumbleUpon posts to choose from. And going forward, each week I will include my favorite posts from the dynamic Life Skills Network!
And before I forget, a belated Happy St. Patrick’s Day! I’m sure there will be more than a few nasty hangovers on this wee Tuesday morn…
Without further ado, Irish eyes were smiling on the following posts from the last week:

My college Alma mater, Manhattan College, is about to take the court in the quarterfinals of the MAAC Conference Basketball Tournament. They’re a big under dog, playing against the #1 seed Siena, but I’m excited for an upset. I can hear it now… Let’s Go Jaspers!
I would like to extend a hearty welcome to David from The Good Human, the newest member of The Life Skills Network! And congratulations to Mrs. Micah one of the nicest people in the personal finance blogosphere, she launched The Finwikian and became the newest member of the M - Network.
Without further ado, here are my favorite StumbleUpon articles from the past week:
Financial Planning
Predicting Retirement: Dynamic Behavior Analysis - Adding dynamic behavior analysis to retirement planning makes for more realistic lifestyle and investment projections. I’m going to have to call Art and find out what software he is talking about…
The Early Retirement Path - Want to retire by age 45? Read how one man and his family plan to do it. I’ve often talked in the past about the negative connotation most people associate with the word ‘frugal.’ Well this man shows how living frugally will (possibly) move his retirement date forward by 25 years…

A day late on this roundup, but as they say, better late than never.
And being late has it’s benefits, as I am able to include the link here to a wonderful carnival of personal finance over at The Baglady, which had a homeless theme. A lot of interesting facts there about the homeless in our country.
Before I get into my favorite stuff from last week, I’d like to do a little housekeeping. Although this a financial planning blog, I continue to get a lot of traffic for articles that are off-topic… not sure what to make of that. Either way I’m happy for it.
In response, I have created a new category that I will be contributing to on a fairly regular basis. The name of the category will be My Community and Social Media, to borrow a phrase used by one of my favorite social media bloggers.
Without further ado, here are My Favorite (on topic;) articles from the past week:

OK a little late on this post, kind of like everything else this week. Writing this right in the middle of the Oscars; as I write this they are performing one of those musical numbers.
First things first, I’d like to announce that I am now a proud member of The Life-Skills Network. I look forward to everything that will come from this collaboration and am honored to be associated with such great blogs and talented writers. (More on TLSN coming soon!)
Here are my favorite articles from the past week, straight from my StumbleUpon page:

I would like to thank Pinyo over on Moolanomy for interviewing me this week. It was a lot of fun, although it could have been broken up into a seven part series, lol.
I’d also like to thank JLP from All Financial Matters for writing a nice review of my article 10 Simple Steps to StumbleUpon Success. I connected with a few new SU friends because of the exposure and appreciate the kind words. I look forward to more bloggers understanding what SU is all about and invite them to contact me over there.
Flavors of the Week brought to you by My StumbleUpon
Which makes for a nice little segway into some of my favorite post from the past week, straight from the categories on my StumbleUpon homepage. This week I’m going to highlight 8 different articles, 1 video and one photograph.

Before I start today, I would just like to say THANK YOU to everyone who supports my blog. I appreciate it very very much, you’ve really helped me to become passionate about something again!
This is the third edition of ‘Chance Flavors.’ And so far it’s been wildly successful (he says jokingly).
Actually, Chance Flavors is by far the least read of all my weekly posts and I’ve been sitting here trying to think how I can change that fact or whether or not it’s worth writing a round up to begin with. It got me to thinking about the purpose of roundups in the first place.
Why do blogs have weekly round ups?
The way I see it most of these roundups serve one, some, or all of the following purposes: Continue Reading “Chance Flavors - StumbleUpon Merger Edition!”

I kicked back the ‘flavors of the week’ an extra day in honor of the Superbowl.
Kicked it back, get it? See where I’m coming from? Haha… sorry, it’s been a long week.
Actually writing this late on Saturday and will time stamp it for ‘Super’ early Sunday morning so there is no ‘Bowl’ conflict. Did you see what I did there? I did it again? HeHe… a bit delirious today.
Let’s get First Down to business…
Home is where the heart is
Over the past 10 days I participated in a group writing project called Home Finance: All you need to know about home ownership at rocket finance. This is a fantastic series where you can get a lot of answers to any of your housing related questions. The series was so popular that it was picked up on MSN Money, as well.
(Unfortunately, I didn’t hear back from anyone last week about which method you prefer in the Flavors roundup:( I’m going to go with ‘the snippet from each post’ method, for now.)
Here are all the articles in the series:

The weekend is upon us once again so it’s time for my favorite flavors of the week.
Yesterday marked the end of the ‘Money Matters for All Ages‘ series which ran over the past 10 days on the blogs of M-Network members and friends.
Last Saturday I highlighted the first 6 posts in the series, so today I bring you all the action from week 2 of the money project.
If you didn’t get a chance to read them all, I highly recommend doing so. There’s a little something for everybody in there, whether you’re new parents or easing into the golden years.
I’d also like to try something different here today. Let me explain…
A few weeks ago my friend Pinyo, over at Moolanomy, invited personal finance bloggers to submit their best posts from 2007. Instead of giving a short summary of each article, he included a snippet directly from each post, including one written by yours truly. I really liked that format and would like to try it out here for the flavors of the week.
