chance flavorsThe day has finally arrived. My first roundup of ‘cracking good’ articles that I enjoyed from other personal finance sites around the web.

Going forward I commit to publishing my favorite posts each Saturday. To borrow from the US Postal Service’s motto, “neither snow, nor rain, nor gloom of night will keep me from the swift completion of my appointed rounds…”

What do you think of the title? I was just sitting here thinking, ‘what am I going to name this?’ and like a lightening bolt it came to me.

We shall see if the name survives, I will wait for feedback from others.

Strength in numbers

Over the past month, I have become a big fan of many of the blogs that make up the M-Network. Originally I wrote a review of Moolanomy (back in November) and through Pinyo’s site I came to know many of the M-Network sites that now dominate my blogroll.

I’m still acquainting myself with the nuances of each blog, but from what I can tell, the network provides thought-provoking, practical ideas that come from the unique experiences of each member.

I promise you there is something for everyone there, and we can all apply some of these helpful tips to our everyday lives.

Blog Review: Generation X Finance

achieve independenceGeneration X Finance and my blog have a lot in common. Most of our posts are targeting the same demographic (GenXer’s) and our objective is eerily similar.

His tag line states, “helping a unique generation achieve financial independence.” And my goal is more or less the same thing. Take a look at my About widget over there to the right and see for yourself.

I remember, back in late June, brainstorming different names for my blog and coming across Generation X Finance. For half a second I was disappointed because I thought someone beat me to the idea. Yes I was a bit naive when it came to blogging, but I’m getting better.

Blog Review: Blueprint for Financial Prosperity

outside the boxBlueprint for Financial Prosperity has been around since early 2005.

The site’s author has been featured in the NY Times, Business Week, as well as RealMoney— a site that I’ve read almost every weekday for the past 5 years.

This blog has a different feel than some of the others I subscribe to. This blog is definitely a bit more edgy and the more I read the more I like. Blueprint has a lot more articles that I would categorize under the heading of investment related advice.

Blog Review: Moolanomy

4th of July coincidenceMoolanomy is a bit smaller than the two previously reviewed blogs, but then again so is every personal finance blog in the universe.

I like the very personal approach he takes to sharing his goals with his audience. I remember the first time I went to this site and saw the ‘road to a million dollars’ widget and the percentage he’d achieved so far.

I thought that was very cool and definitely got me interested in the rest of his site.

A bit of a coincidence

Moolanomy started on July 10th of this year (only one day after my first post) and this guy dove in head first. It’s kind of funny because he only lives 10.1 miles from me (I mapquested it), which means around the 4th of July there were 2 guys walking around Queens, NY bursting with ideas that needed an outlet, getting ready to change the world… haha.

Blog Review: Get Rich Slowly

get rich slowlyGet Rich Slowly is another one of the big boys of personal finance blogging. The site first came online in April 2006 and already has over 34,000 RSS feed readers, as of this writing, wow. I’m sure if you check back in a month this number will be a lot higher.

First, I’d like to congratulate J.D. from (GRS) Get Rich Slowly who announced yesterday his plans to become a full time blogger. He details the reasons for quitting the day job in his most recent post. His articles are already excellent, I can only wonder what more time on his hands is going to do.

I know this is a leap of faith for him, but I’m fairly certain it’s going to work. He talks about finding the guts to pursue his dreams, which is a common theme you often here among people that achieve success. These are words I love to hear.

Blog Review: The Simple Dollar

the simple dollarThe Simple Dollar is a personal finance blog written by Trent Hamm. It’s one of my favorite blogs to read.

When I originally wrote blogging is beautiful I talked about ‘being blown away’ by different blogs. Well I was specifically referring to The Simple Dollar.

After blogging for nearly five months now, I have an even greater appreciation for what he has accomplished. His blog came online in October of 2006 and since that time I don’t think he has missed a single day of posting. Double check his archive page for yourself.

Integrating ‘Down Home’ planning with other finance blogs

a good matchMuch of what I write about is specific to my experiences in the financial services industry.

My existing clients are the the type of people that are in need of a ‘formal’ financial plan. And the majority of my clients already have a significant asset base.

They have many complex issues that need servicing. For instance, they pay me to manage their investments, look at their insurance options, provide estate planning solutions, review disability and LTC packages, etc.

This is what I’m trained to do, this is where my expertise lies. My experiences in financial services come from dealing with this sweetspot.
