I was so HOT after watching the whole Roger Clemens/Brian McNamee thing today that I had to wait a few hours before writing this post. I think if I put it up initially I might have written something I regret or let a few expletives fly.
Before I get into a list of my observations from today, I just want to say that I was glued to the TV all afternoon.
Those were 4 of the most riveting, controversial and politically charged hours of TV I think I’ve ever seen. When all was said and done any doubts I had were wiped away. Although, I’m sure it wouldn’t be proved in a court of law, IMHO, Roger Clemens is SO SO guilty.
I just wanted to write a short post here on what an RSS feed is and how to setup your feed reader.
Many of my friends in their 30’s and older still have no idea what an RSS feed is. For that reason, I used to have a section on my blog homepage called ‘What is RSS?’ When you clicked on it, it would take you right to this page. Unfortunately, that section hit the cutting room floor.
So I figured I’d just turn it into an individual post that visitors can refer to.
Honestly, this YouTube video (right below)Â is the easiest way to learn about what an RSS feed and feed reader are, so watch it!
If you turn on the TV these days then you know the US economy is in trouble.
Over the next few quarters, as the dirty laundry is aired out, we will be learning more and more about the depth and severity of our problems.
Many of the banks and lenders, with the most blood on their hands, have already started to report record losses and write offs.
Housing bubble
The problems in the real estate market stem from the housing bubble that has been created (and over inflated) in the last five years or so. And like any bubble, eventually it goes pop, with the shrapnel dispersing far and wide. And the size of this bubble looks to be extraordinary.
Whenever there is a lot of money to made (and quickly), as there was in the mortgage lending market, then greed factors heavily into the equation. And one of the ways greed manifested itself in the housing market was through unscrupulous lending practices, also referred to as predatory mortgage lending.
Here’s a YouTube video clip documenting Bill Gates’s final day at Microsoft. If you haven’t seen it already, then I recommend watching it.
I’ve watched it 3x and each time it gets funnier.
Bill Gates is only the richest man in the world, so leave it to him to enroll the help of a bunch of C and D list celebrities and politicians to help him celebrate his last day…
Enjoy! and let me know which is your favorite part…
Wednesday was my 36th Birthday and I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for the kind words and messages. I received phone calls, texts and cards from many different people and it made me feel good.
FRIENDLY TIP: Try and remember the birthdays and anniversaries of those closest to you. It means more to them then you may think!
I’ll be off doing my Christmas shopping and spending time with family and friends over the next week, so the posting will be light. With that said… I’d like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
Last week I wrote a post about cracking my knuckles and sadly it was my most popular post to date.
It’s funny actually, I write all these financial planning based pieces and the one that delivers the most traffic is the one about my knuckles.
Actually, I’m kidding about being sad about it, I love the fact that people enjoyed it. All work and no play is not the kind of approach that I want to take to this blog.
So I decided for every few on-topic posts, I want to mix it up a bit and write about something different. Which brings me to the topic of this post… these funky ear plugs.
Big things come in small packages
I get a lot of mail each week from different investment companies and sometimes they attach little gimmicky type gifts. On this day, there were two little orange ear plugs attached to the mailer in a plastic bag. The mailer said something like, ‘drown out the market noise.’
I find myself cracking my knuckles all the time. I can’t remember when I started doing this but I probably do it about once an hour or so.
Now, I’m double jointed and can bend the top part of my thumb back to parallel. When I show people this they make that bitter beer face and say it looks weird.
I guess they’re right, it does look kind of strange. I’m just so used to seeing it because it’s me and I thought it was normal.
And funny enough, its the knuckle I enjoy cracking the most, maybe because I don’t need any other fingers to assist. It makes a crisp little popping noise that makes me feel like my thumbs are ready to rock.
I would just like to take this opportunity to wish my mom a Happy Birthday! I don’t think she would like it if I wrote her age here so I won’t do it.
Since she is one of the few people, at this point, that reads the blog, I thought it would be kind of cool to give her an online shout out.
My mom is one of the kindest, most selfless people in the world and she has a great way of making everyone feel good. I’m lucky to have her and wish her a very happy 70th birthday! (or somewhere around there)
Back at the end of August I penned a column called Blogging is beautiful. I just went back and read it and had a chuckle at some of the things that I wrote back then.
A few things have changed significantly since then, and a few things remain the same.
For instance, after spending most of September away from the blog (mainly out of frustration), I was able to make a fair amount of headway in resolving many of the technical issues I faced.
Partly because I was able to teach myself a few things, but mostly because I hired an intern off of Craigslist that was more or less a Godsent. (second time I can remember using the word ‘Godsent’ in a post this month, hmm… interesting)
Well I’m back to the blog after a few days of R&R for the Labor Day weekend. Been relaxing and watching the US Open Tennis, loving the matches and the great coverage on USA and CBS, always one of my favorite times of year in NYC. Tonight on USA is Roger Federer vs Andy Roddick in prime-time, I can’t wait. Hopefully Andy will give him more of a challenge then he did at the Australian Open in January.
This time of year brings back special memories for me, as I grew up playing tennis at the USTA National Tennis Center. I ball-boyed the Open for many years, alongside my tennis friends, many of whom I’ve lost touch with. I ball-boyed the Womens doubles final where Steffi Graf and Gabriella Sabatini won the title that year.
Back in the day
I ball-boyed a Mens quarterfinal between Jimmy Connors and Brad Gilbert, I ball-boyed for Boris Becker on a few occasions and everyone thought I looked just like him; I used to take photos with fans who thought I was him, pretty funny.
